Steve Spence has joined Mills James as Controller in the creative media firm’s Accounting department.

As Controller, Spence oversees the company’s financial reporting, ESOP administration, billing, receivables, payables and payroll. He also assists the President and the CEO in directing the financial strategy of the company and ensuring the accurate reporting of financial information.

Spence came to Mills James from Bruner Corporation where he served as Controller and managed accounting and finance activities including management reporting, tax compliance and internal controls. Earlier, he was a consultant for Resources Global Professionals where he advised clients on Sarbanes-Oxley reviews and financial oversight controls. For nearly 20 years he served as Director of Golf and General Manager of Operations for Oakhaven Golf Club in Delaware where he oversaw all golf course functions including financial management responsibilities and investor relations. Before Oakhaven, Spence was Corporate Controller for Drypers Corporation in Marion, Ohio, where he managed accounting and finance activities including management reporting, annual audits, SEC reporting, annual budgeting, tax compliance and internal controls. Earlier in his career, Spence was an Audit Manager with Ernst and Young where he specialized in the Entrepreneurial Services Group and small business consulting.

A graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Spence attended on an Evans Scholarship and received a B.A. in Accounting. He is an Evans alumnus.
