Live Event Director | Show Caller

Mills James has created a new position for our events group. The Live Event Director | Show Caller will work with Producers and Project Managers to direct and call shows on headset for live event productions. Our Show Caller makes it happen, with all lighting, music, announcements, video cues, and talent responding simultaneously. Previous multi-source directing in an event environment is preferable. Still, we will not exclude directors with experience in control rooms at TV stations, live trucks, or venues with LED screen production.

This full-time position is based in Columbus, Ohio.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Show Caller makes the show run on time as chief of all communications during the event. This position will interface with our creative and technical crew and have client-facing responsibilities.

  • Responsible for pre-production tasks, including creating show flows, stage and graphic cue sheets, camera shot sheets, and other supporting materials.
  • Must understand the project’s creative vision and lead the collaboration in designing and developing elements for the live production experience

REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; four years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3-5 years of professional experience calling or directing live events along with managing event content in a production environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and an understanding of Mac-based programs, including Keynote
  • The highest level of communication skills, organization skills, and ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects is required
  • A personality that reflects the Mills James culture of integrity, honesty, respect, and cooperation
  • A high degree of adaptability to a continually changing environment
  • Valid driver’s license required; required to obtain US Passport and medical card if necessary; must be available for 60% travel and work flexible hours
