MERCY HEALTH

Mercy Health is a system of 23 hospitals and clinically integrated practices across Ohio and Kentucky and treats 6.3 million patients annually. That scale is something that serves them and their patients very well. But when the time came to produce an advertising campaign their brief to the agency was to balance their scale with humanity, compassion and a strong expression of local identity.

Mills James worked closely with the agency and Mercy Health administrators to plan and execute the multi-city shoot.

To keep shoot days and the disruption of clinical services to a minimum -- and make the best use of the limited time physicians and staff had available -- we adopted a multi-unit production strategy.

Whether it was building a library of identifiable local landmarks or portraits of leading health staff for key revenue drivers, our ability to field multiple units allowed us to acquire more content in less time. Which gave Mercy Health and their agency more ways to ‘localize’ their ads to individual communities.

While the shoot was in progress the agency’s designers were working with Mills James’ visual effects group to animate the Mercy Health logo. Mills James also handled creative editorial, color grading, audio and trafficking the finished spots to the stations.

We understand that healthcare budgets are targeted to patient care and research. This means that some very worthwhile stories may not get told. As an employee-owned company, we’re vested in our clients’ success. Even more, we’re vested in the health and well-being of our communities and are proud of our pro bono work.

One example of this is a video Mills James created and produced in partnership with the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine. Part of an educational campaign targeted to the families of patients with BRCA mutations, the video needed to share a “knowledge is power” message. How could we produce an engaging and effective video that allows multiple families – living in widely separate geographies -- to share their stories? And do it in a way that is non-threatening, encourages further sharing and avoids the cost of multiple days of shooting?

Working with OSUWMC to secure patient participation the Mills James video producer and graphic designer created a visually inventive motion graphics treatment. Using stylized portraits of patients and firsthand narratives presented as text on screen, the video brings a bright, optimistic and reassuring look to the serious work of empowering families to take ownership of their healthcare choices.

FSED FOR OHIOHEALTH

To meet the changing healthcare needs of the communities they serve, OhioHealth committed to building a network of Freestanding Emergency Departments in locations across Central Ohio.

In order to drive advance awareness and spark engagement with local communities, OhioHealth partnered with Mills James to develop a traveling experiential marketing effort. Part game arcade, part pop up information kiosk, the FSED experience was designed to be mobile, immersive and self-guided.

Mills James designers combined retail strategies for traffic flow, ‘show don’t tell’ storytelling and powerful appeals to all five senses into a branded experience that reduced a complex story to an enjoyable experience. The result: a unique and effective way to build one-to-one connections that are meaningful and lasting.
